Virginia Governor Cancels Confederate History Month |

Governor Bob McDonnell has found it in his oh so compassionate heart to cancel the racist Confederate History Month in the state of Virginia which had been scheduled for next April. Controversy over his decision to have Confederate History Month at all was swift because celebrating it set him apart from his predecessors and he managed to completely omit SLAVERY in his initial declaration. I guess Governor McDonnell wanted to gloss over the fact that he wanted to honor the soldiers who fought and died for the Confederacy without mentioning the fact that they were fighting and dying so that black people could continue to be chattel. So instead of commemorating the Confederacy, Governor McDonnell instead would like to celebrate “Civil War in Virginia” month because you know Virginians valiantly fought and died for their half of the country and lost. They are worth celebrating! And just like The Tea Party absolutely none of this is racist. Not even a little bit.
