[VIDEO] Liberals Say Dumb Shit Too!

» 01 June 2010 »

So does this mean that I’m not really black because I don’t carry around a gun in my pants?  I would also like to add that Bill’s “blackscent” is an epic fail. It sounds way too much like The Situation on Jersey Shore.  (h/t @jamilsmith)

I think that sometimes Bill Maher is right on point. Other times he suffers from the embarrassment of epic fail. I hope he's embarassed. This is right up there with Bill OReally and his description of the civilized black folks at Sylvia's not demanding more M-Fing iced tea.

LMAO!!!!!!!!! His version of a black president is some character of the God Father. Some people are so fucking RACIST, and so out of touch. can't even get his stereotypes right. damnittohell.

It's humorous, in an awkward sort of way, but it makes a good point. Blackness does have a certain essence. A particular kind of irreducible substance characterized by expressiveness and empathy, definitively characterized as soul. But its not just style, which Obama has mastered well. It's also substance; a perspective upon life that champions the underdog; often with bravado, as described by Maher. Obama has black style down pat. Black substance, philosophically and politically, not so much.

I think it's funny, nothing racist about it. I could see Chris Rock and other Black American comedians doing the same joke and I would respond the same way. The accent was clearly “Godfather-ish” but the image of President Obama doing actually saying that, priceless.

The post didn't say it was racist. What the post said was that it qualified as “dumb shit.” And saying that a Black comedian would say the same thing doesn't excuse the the quote. Black comedians have said many, many things that weren't exactly “positive” towards Black people. I think the really important fact to take note of is that the Left would have lost their SHIT if Beck, Limbaugh or Palin would have said similar. And by “the left” I mean SPECIFICALLY Maher himself.
